Description

King StarBoard® AS is an anti-skid, marine-grade high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheet for high-traffic walking surfaces where traction is critical, such as boat decks, swim platforms, and ladder steps. One side has a dot or diamond pattern with a high-friction surface that helps prevent slipping and promotes drainage. The other side has a matte finish.

King Plastic makes the sheet with its K-Stran™ process for flatness and consistency. It is UV stabilized for outdoor use and will not rust, delaminate, or rot when exposed to sun, humidity, or water. The sheet never needs painting or refinishing, and it works like wood when you cut and shape it.

Cut tolerance: +0.0″ / −0.2″

Advantages

  • Anti-skid surface: high-friction dot or diamond pattern helps prevent slipping and promotes drainage
  • Marine grade and UV stabilized: made for outdoor exposure to sun, water, and humidity
  • Solid polymer sheet: will not rust, delaminate, or rot
  • No finishing: never needs painting or refinishing
  • Works like wood: cuts, routes, and drills with common woodworking tools and techniques

Applications

  • Boat decking, step treads, and ladder steps
  • Swim platforms and bow pulpits
  • Hatches and dock boxes
  • Swimming pool grating and shower floors
  • Stairways and entryways

Buying and Fabrication Notes

StarBoard AS fits projects where the walking surface is the main concern and a patterned sheet is preferred over a standard smooth or matte marine board. For parts that will be fastened, supported, or used as a panel, consider the span, attachment method, and expected load before choosing a thickness.

Adhesives are not recommended and the sheet cannot be painted, so join parts with mechanical fasteners or by plastic welding. Carbide router bits with two to four flutes are recommended. The sheet expands and contracts about 1⁄32 inch per foot of length or width for every 40°F change in temperature, so drill oversized holes at fasteners and leave room for movement.

Clean with a household cleaner and a nylon brush, scrubbing lightly so the finish does not mar, and do not use MEK, turpentine, or naphtha. Keep furniture polish and surface protectants off walking surfaces, because they can make them slippery. Store sheets flat, away from heat sources above 180°F.
