Description

HDPE plastic sheet is a high-density polyethylene sheet used for machined and fabricated parts, industrial lining, cabinetry, partitions, and general-purpose components. It combines impact resistance, very low moisture absorption, and chemical resistance, and it is easy to machine and fabricate. This natural (white) sheet has a smooth gloss finish on both sides.

The smooth surface has a low coefficient of friction, so HDPE is often used for slides, conveyor parts, and other parts that slide in service. It can be cut, drilled, routed, milled, planed, or welded using standard plastic fabrication practices.

This sheet is not UV stabilized. It is supplied without protective masking and is not manufactured to visual specifications, so minor handling marks or surface variation may be present. It is best suited to functional parts where material performance matters more than a cosmetic finish.

Cut tolerance: +0.0″ / −0.2″

Advantages

  • Impact resistance: tough enough for fabricated parts and work surfaces in regular use
  • Chemical and corrosion resistance: commonly used around many oils, solvents, acids, and alkaline substances; confirm compatibility for specific chemicals and concentrations
  • Low moisture absorption: a practical choice for wet environments
  • Low-friction surface: suited to slides, conveyor components, and other sliding contact
  • Machinability: can be cut, drilled, routed, milled, planed, and shaped with standard woodworking or metalworking tools
  • Fabrication options: can be mechanically fastened or thermoplastic welded

Applications

  • Machined and fabricated industrial parts
  • Conveyor components, slides, and industrial lining
  • Chemical processing and corrosion-resistant components
  • Food and beverage processing
  • Aviation and transportation
  • Medical orthotics and prosthetics
  • Cabinetry, restroom and shower partitions, and lockers

Buying Considerations

This sheet fits jobs where function, chemical resistance, moisture resistance, and machinability come first. Because it is not UV stabilized, confirm suitability before long-term outdoor use. For food-contact, regulated, structural, or highly visible applications, review the product documentation and test the material under actual service conditions before final use.

Fabrication and Handling Notes

HDPE machines well with sharp tools and frequent chip removal. Carbide-tipped tools give a better surface and longer tool life. Plastics do not conduct heat well, so avoid heat buildup during cutting, drilling, routing, or milling; cooling with compressed air or water helps prevent scorching and melting. Run trial cuts before production work.

Allow for thermal expansion and contraction when sizing parts and drilling mounting holes. Oversized holes, oversized washers, or grommets let the sheet move with temperature changes. For parts that are assembled and disassembled repeatedly, press-in threaded inserts work well.
