Description

King StarBoard® WG is a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheet with a wood grain finish on both sides. It is used for outdoor furniture, cabinetry, boat components, outdoor storage, and other projects that need the look of wood in a material that stands up to moisture and routine cleaning.

King Plastic makes the sheet with its K-Stran™ process for flatness and consistency. It is UV stabilized for outdoor use and will not rust, delaminate, or rot when exposed to sun, humidity, or water. It never needs painting or refinishing, and it works like wood, so common woodworking tools and techniques apply.

On all stocked pieces, the wood grain runs lengthwise. Consider grain direction when planning visible panels, doors, tabletops, and matching parts.

Fabrication and Handling Notes

King StarBoard WG can be cut and shaped with table saws, routers, drills, blades, and bits. Carbide router bits with two to four flutes are recommended. The sheet cannot be painted and adhesives are not recommended, so join parts with mechanical fasteners or plastic welding. It expands and contracts about 1⁄32 inch per foot of length or width for every 40°F change in temperature, so leave room for movement in outdoor installations. King does not recommend it for countertops.

Cleaning and Maintenance

For everyday dirt and stains, use a household cleaner with a nylon scrub pad or stiff nylon brush, and scrub lightly to avoid marring the finish. Soaking with a bleach solution (not 100% chlorine) usually removes persistent stains, and a citrus cleaner, alcohol, or mineral spirits works on grease and oil. Do not use MEK, turpentine, or naphtha. Store sheets flat and away from heat sources above 180°F.
