King StarBoard ST

Description

King StarBoard® ST is a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) building sheet for cabinetry, furniture, architectural partitions, outdoor kitchens, and commercial fixtures. It is one of King Plastic's most scratch-resistant polymer sheets and is 25 percent stiffer than the original King StarBoard®, which helps with cabinet parts, panels, and furniture components that need more rigidity.

Both sides have a textured, low-gloss finish. King Plastic makes the sheet with its K-Stran™ process for flatness and consistency. It is UV stabilized for outdoor use and will not rust, delaminate, or rot when exposed to sun, humidity, or water, so it suits wet areas and outdoor projects where wood would need regular refinishing.

StarBoard ST never needs painting or refinishing. It works like wood and can be cut, routed, and drilled with common woodworking tools and CNC equipment.

Buying Considerations

StarBoard ST fits outdoor cabinets, furniture, and panels that need a rigid, moisture-resistant sheet finished on both sides, especially where the project needs more stiffness than original StarBoard. It cannot be painted, and King does not recommend it for countertops.

Fabrication and Installation Notes

StarBoard ST works much like wood in the shop, but design and assemble it as HDPE. Most router bit makers class it as a soft plastic, and bits made for soft plastics give a cleaner cut, though standard woodworking bits also work. Up-cut O-flute bits clear chips best. Test on scrap before a production run.

Adhesives are not recommended; use mechanical fasteners, with stainless steel hardware in outdoor and wet areas. Pilot-drill and countersink or counterbore every screw, and do not overtighten. The sheet expands and contracts about 1⁄32 inch per foot for every 40°F change in temperature, so slot screw holes where temperatures swing widely and do not fit panels tightly between fixed surfaces such as walls or columns.

Store sheets flat on a level surface and away from heat sources above 180°F. Mark layouts with china markers or water-based markers.
