Description

King ColorCore® is a multi-color, engravable HDPE sheet with a thin cap layer of one color on each face over a core of a contrasting color. Engraving or routing through the cap exposes the core, so lettering, logos, and graphics show in the second color without paint. Either face can be engraved.

Color names list the layers in order, cap/core/cap: Black/White/Black has black faces and a white core. ColorCore is commonly used for signage and wayfinding, parks and recreation, marine, playground, and display projects. Standard colors are made to coordinate with King ColorBoard® solid-color sheet.

Fabrication and Handling Notes

ColorCore works much like wood but machines as HDPE. Tool makers class it as a soft plastic, and up-cut O-flute bits clear chips well and limit heat buildup. Use sloped lead-ins instead of straight plunges, keep engraving passes shallow for clean edges and a clean color reveal, and run test cuts to confirm depth and contrast before cutting finished parts.

Adhesives do not bond reliably to HDPE, so use mechanical fasteners such as screws, bolts, or stainless hardware. Drill pilot holes and allow for thermal expansion and contraction, especially outdoors, so fasteners hold the panel without restricting its movement.

Store sheets flat on a level surface, and keep them away from heat sources above 180°F. One side is masked to protect the finish during handling and machining; remove the masking before final use.
