Description

Acetal copolymer sheet, also called POM-C, is an engineering plastic for machined parts that need strength, stiffness, low friction, and stable dimensions. It absorbs very little moisture, so parts machined to close tolerances tend to hold their size in both wet and dry service. That makes it a common choice for gears, bearings, bushings, and other precision components.

This listing is acetal copolymer. Acetal is known commonly by the trade name Delrin®, but Delrin® is an acetal homopolymer, a closely related material. The copolymer has better chemical resistance, while the homopolymer is slightly stronger. Acetal copolymer is a common general-purpose acetal grade.

The sheet has a smooth, naturally slippery surface that reduces friction in moving parts. It is often used in place of metal where lower weight, easier machining, corrosion concerns, or reduced part wear matter.

Advantages

  • Low friction: slick surface for sliding, rotating, and wear-contact parts
  • Wear resistance: holds up to repeated contact in both wet and dry environments
  • Dimensional stability: low moisture absorption and low creep help machined parts keep their shape and size
  • Machinability: cuts, drills, mills, and turns cleanly to close tolerances
  • Strength and stiffness: tough and rigid for mechanical parts, fixtures, and load-bearing components within appropriate design limits
  • Chemical resistance: resists many solvents, fuels, and lubricants; strong acids can attack acetal, so confirm compatibility for your application
  • Electrical insulation: used for nonconductive mechanical and electrical components

Applications

  • Gears, sprockets, pulleys, and cams
  • Bearings, bushings, rollers, guides, and wear pads
  • Pump, valve, manifold, and fluid-handling components
  • Food processing and packaging machinery parts
  • Jigs, fixtures, tooling plates, and machined prototypes
  • Electrical insulators, connectors, and nonconductive supports
  • Fasteners, spacers, and other precision-machined parts

Machining and Handling Notes

Acetal copolymer works well for CNC routing, milling, drilling, turning, and other machining operations. Sharp tooling and suitable speeds and feeds help keep edges clean and finished parts accurate.

The sheet is supplied unmasked and is not manufactured to visual specifications. Choose it for mechanical and functional parts, not for display pieces that need a flawless cosmetic surface. It is not UV stabilized and is intended for indoor use.

Standard glues grip poorly on acetal because of its slick surface. Mechanical fasteners, press fits, and machined joints are usually more practical. Where bonding is required, roughen and clean the surface and use an adhesive rated for acetal.

Acetal copolymer is typically rated for continuous service up to about 212°F. For direct food contact or other regulated uses, confirm that the material you order has the required compliance documentation.
