Description

King CuttingBoard® is a solid high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheet made for food applications, including cutting boards, butcher blocks, and food preparation, packaging, and processing work. The non-porous surface does not absorb food odors and is easy to clean and sanitize.

King Plastic makes the sheet with its K-Stran™ process for flatness and consistency. It is the natural white color of polyethylene with a matte finish on both sides. King CuttingBoard® is NSF listed for Standards 2 and 51 for direct and indirect food contact and is made from FDA- and USDA-approved material. The raw material does not contain BPA or phthalates.

Fabrication and Care Notes

Use standard woodworking tools such as table saws, routers, and drills, or a CNC router. A carbide saw blade gives a crisp edge, and carbide router bits with two to four flutes are recommended. The sheet cannot be painted and standard adhesives are not recommended, so assemble parts with stainless steel mechanical fasteners. For screws, drill pilot holes followed by an oversized hole in the sheet to allow for expansion and contraction.

Wash in a dishwasher, removing the board before the drying cycle to air dry, or by hand with hot, soapy water. Scrub lightly with a nylon brush, since excess force can mar the finish. Sanitize with 1 teaspoon of bleach per quart of water; do not use 100% chlorine made for swimming pools. A paste of 1 teaspoon each of baking soda, salt, and water helps remove surface stains.

Do not expose the sheet to sustained temperatures above 180°F; it melts under extreme heat. Keep teak oil, wood preservatives, and uncoated metals away from the surface, because they can leave permanent stains. Do not mark it with pens, pencils, or markers; use a china marker or wax pencil for layout. The sheet is not UV stabilized and is intended for indoor use.
