Solid Colored Cast Acrylic Plastic Sheet

Description

Solid colored cast acrylic is a cell-cast PMMA sheet with the color built into the material, so it needs no paint and the color runs through the full thickness. It has a smooth gloss finish on both sides, stays rigid, and weighs about half as much as glass. Signs, displays, decorative panels, shelving, and craft and fabrication projects are typical uses.

Each color is either opaque or translucent. Opaque colors block light almost completely. Translucent colors let some light through and show their color when lit from behind, which makes them a practical choice for backlit signs and light diffusers; how much light passes varies by color. The sheet is 1⁄8″ nominal thickness and measures about 0.118″ (3 millimeters).

The sheet is UV stabilized for indoor and outdoor use, and both sides are masked to protect the gloss finish during handling and fabrication.

Fabrication and Handling Notes

Use sharp carbide-tipped tooling made for plastics, support the sheet during cutting, and avoid heavy feed pressure that can chip or melt the edge. Drill with bits made for plastics, or standard bits reground to a sharper point, and back the sheet with scrap where the bit exits.

Leave the masking on through layout, cutting, and routing, and remove it before installation or display. Clean with mild soap, lukewarm water, and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, ammonia-based cleaners, and solvents, which can scratch or damage the surface.
