Description

Transparent colored acrylic is cell-cast PMMA sheet tinted through its thickness, so it keeps the see-through quality of clear acrylic while adding color. Often called plexiglass, it weighs about half as much as glass and resists breakage better, and it is used for displays, signs, decorative panels, glazing, and fabricated parts.

Light transmission depends on the color. The palest shades pass nearly as much light as clear sheet, while the darker bronzes and grays pass much less, giving a deeper tint and less visibility through the panel. Choose a light shade for bright color accents and a darker one where you want less visibility through the panel or a stronger color effect.

The sheet is UV stabilized for indoor and outdoor use and has good dimensional stability. It cuts, drills, routes, engraves, cements, and heat forms with standard acrylic methods, which suits both shop fabrication and DIY work.

Fabrication and Handling Notes

Use tools and feed rates suited to acrylic to avoid chipping, melting, or cracking. Solvent cements made for acrylic produce strong, transparent joints; do not polish edges that will be cemented, because polishing rounds the edge and weakens the joint.

Keep the masking on during layout and machining, and remove it before installation. Glossy transparent sheet can show dust and fine scratches readily, so support it fully when cutting, keep work surfaces free of chips, and clean it with mild soap, water, and a soft cloth.
