Description

LaserMax® is a 2-ply engraving plastic made from microsurfaced impact-modified acrylic. A thin cap layer sits over a contrasting core. Engraving removes the cap, to a depth of about 0.003″, and exposes the core color for readable text, logos, and graphics.

Sign shops, engravers, and facility teams use it for signs, equipment tags, name badges, legend plates, and awards in settings such as hospitality, offices, retail, and schools. It works with both laser and rotary carbide engraving, and it is made with enhanced heat tolerance for cleaner, faster laser engraving.

Buying Considerations

LaserMax® comes in matte non-glare, gloss, brushed metal, and patterned finishes. Finish affects glare, appearance, and where the sign can go. Some LaserMax® foils are not recommended where UV stability is required: Port Wine/Gold, Verde/Gold, Rose Gold/Black, Deep Bronze/Black, Brushed Copper/Black, Brushed Bronze/Black, Brushed Gold/Black, Brushed European Gold/Black, Smooth Gold/Black, Brushed Aluminum/Black, Brushed Silver/Black, Smooth Silver/Black, and Brushed Bronze/White. Brushed European Gold/Black is also not recommended for harsh or high-humidity indoor or outdoor applications.

Sheets ship as full, uncut sheets sold by nominal size. Actual dimensions differ slightly from the nominal 24″ × 48″ and are listed for each color.

Fabrication and Handling Notes

Test settings on scrap before production. Laser power, speed, focus, and air assist all affect contrast and edge quality; for rotary work, use carbide tooling set up for acrylic engraving stock. When laser cutting, vector cut the part with the masking on, then remove the masking to raster engrave. This keeps the masking on the unused material and can shorten cleanup. White and light-colored plastics are typically unsuitable for diode laser fabrication.

LaserMax® softens enough to bend at about 180°F. It can be bonded to itself or to other materials; test the adhesive with the chosen finish and conditions first.

Clean with a soft cloth or sponge and mild soap and warm water, testing on scrap first. Do not use citrus-based cleaners, abrasive cleaners, or ultrasonic cleaners. Compressed air removes dust from engraved areas before any liquid cleaning.
