Description

Expanded PVC, also called foam PVC, foamed PVC, or cellular PVC, is a lightweight, rigid sheet with a fine closed-cell core and smooth faces. It is commonly used for signs, displays, direct printing, and general fabrication, because it prints well, routes to clean edges, and is easy to handle and mount.

This grade is made for print and display work and has been tested and approved by most major digital flatbed printer manufacturers. The white sheet has a bright surface for accurate color. Density runs about 0.55–0.70 g/cm³, depending on thickness, and each sheet has protective film on one side.

Advantages

Moisture and chemical resistance: resists moisture and many common chemicals at room temperature
Fastening options: takes screws, nails, staples, and rivets, and bonds with adhesives made for rigid PVC
Fire rating and compliance: tested to UL 94 V-0 by an accredited third-party laboratory, made without lead or other heavy metals, and covered by RoHS and REACH declarations
Recycled content: made with up to 30 percent recycled content and fully recyclable

Fabrication and Handling Notes

Before printing, painting, or bonding, clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol and a clean cloth, and test the ink, paint, adhesive, or laminate before a full run. Use cold lamination only; heat mounting can warp the sheet.

Expanded PVC expands and contracts with temperature. For screws and nails, use oversized holes or elongated slots with oversized washers so the sheet can move.

The manufacturer warns that the sheet softens and can deform permanently above 140°F, ambient or surface temperature. It rates UV protection for the white sheet as acceptable and makes a separate grade for signs and displays meant for long-term outdoor exposure. Black is not recommended outdoors because dark colors absorb heat and can pass that limit. Evaluate any outdoor use carefully for sun exposure, mounting, and project life.

PVC sheet is generally not recommended for use with acetone, ketones, ethers, or aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Test compatibility before exposing it to other chemicals, cleaners, fuels, or solvents.
